Scuba Diving in South Florida

What does South Florida have to offer scuba divers? How about warm water, great visibility and varied marine life! Add to that an abundance of interesting coral reef and wreck sites and you end up with some of the most exciting and enjoyable diving in the United States.

With year round water temperatures ranging from approximately 70-85 F, a swimsuit is sufficient for summer diving while a full 3-5 mm wetsuit is perfect for diving in the winter months. Underwater visibility varies from day based on the conditions but in Key Largo we generally experience 40-80 feet of viz.

Wreck Diving

South Florida is famous for its artificial reef program as well as natural shipwreck sites. A 20 minute boat ride will put you on top of one of dozens of shipwreck sites in 20 to 130 feet of water. Come face to face with giant Goliath grouper, large schools of baitfish, jacks and barracuda.

Coral Reef Diving

Coral reefs in Miami? You bet! Miami and Key Largo reef sites are numerous and vary from scattered patch reefs to parallel spur and groove formations. A typical site rests in 25 feet of water and may have coral heads rising to within a few feet of the surface. Colorful Caribbean marine life is the norm- tropical reef fish, snapper, grouper, turtles, moray eels, stingrays, and nurse sharks are common. You will also find numerous hard and soft coral and sponge formations. With an hour of bottom time at each shallow site you are practically guaranteed to find some interesting creatures.
